Letting Go of Ishmael

Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD ~ Ps. 27:14

Just because our plans succeed does not mean God is in them. Abraham was outside God’s will when he slept with Hagar to get a child. There were a lot of chances that she might not have convinced. Yet against all odds his plan succeeded and she did. It must have looked like answers to prayers.

I believe it is more dangerous to succeed than to fail when we are outside the will of God. For getting what we want often leaves us with the confusion that maybe the success is a sign that God has accepted our Ishmael. But be not deceived, God has not. And if we do not return and repent, like Abraham later did, we set ourselves up for trouble.

It is better to wait for God even if he seems slow. It is good to let God work out his will his own way. Like it did to Abraham, our Ishmaels will always complicate things even though they may seem to bring quicker results.

If we will let go of our Ishmaelite-projects and let God be God then he will give us our Isaacs like he promised.

PLEASE are you born again? It is not enough to believe in the existence of God, to go to church, or be interested in spiritual things. Jesus said “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Jesus died to deliver you from sin so that you can come to God. (John 3:16) If you ask him to forgive you and give you a new heart he will. (Acts 2:38; Romans 10:9-11).Try it. I’d love to hear from you @
